Hip Pain: Trochanteric Bursitis

Hip Pain: Trochanteric Bursitis

January 16, 2015

Trochanteric bursitis is an inflammation of the soft tissues surrounding the pointer of one’s hip. It's pain on the side. The bursa is a fluid-filled sack that facilitates movement of the tendons overlying bony prominences in the body (e.g. hips, knees, elbows, shoulders). Fortunately, this common condition is often treatable with rest, activity modifications, and exercises designed to strengthen the muscles surrounding the hip joint.

Exercise therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for this condition. However, in many instances, patients with symptoms resistant to treatment can benefit from corticosteroid injections into the area to minimize pain and inflammation. Surgery is reserved only reserved for severe and unresponsive cases. These findings were confirmed by Lustenberger and associates in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.

SimpleTherapy can offer an individualized program for gluteal and hip abductor stretching and exercises to help manage symptoms of bursitis of the hip.
